Musketeer's 8th Weekly Report Card:

This week Musketeer has been working on maintaining a down stay while around moving objects such as skateboards, bikes, carts, suitcases rolling around him, leave it with balls being rolled and bounced by him, a person running by, practicing appropriate restaurant behavior including not begging or attempting to eat or closely sniffing any food on the floor or on tables, leave it with food items that may fall from the table, leave it with small toys being placed in front of him, sitting politely while being pet by strangers, maneuvering into restroom stalls and maintaining a sit stay while the handler washes hands and exposure to sound of a hand dryer.

His training locations have included Toys R Us, Arriba's Mexican Grill, Staples, Sam's Club and Jimmy John's. Next week Musketeer will be working on walking next to and riding on a bus/tram, walking next to electric and standard wheelchairs, exposure to a person walking with a cane, sound and touch sensitivity, elevator and stairs practice, recall with distractions and distance, maintaining a down stay/sit stay while another dog passes by, off leash heeling from one aisle to the next, heeling next to traffic sounds, maintaining a stay while the handler loads items into a shopping cart, leave it with various items and heeling through narrow spaces.

Musketeer Puppy's 7th Weekly Report Card:

Musketeer Puppy had a great week of training and has officially passed his obedience assessment and has moved into public service. He is doing a great job in training and we are very proud of him!

This week Musketeer has been working on reinforcing all of the commands and tasks that he has learned in a high distraction environment, working on sound and touch sensitivity, maintaining a down stay on a bed, maintaining a sit and down stay while someone knocks at the door and rings a doorbell, and learning to stay in a stand position. Musketeer has been working on "accepting a friendly stranger" which means practicing to sit politely while the handler stands close to and speaks to a stranger without the dog trying to sniff or get to the stranger and maintaining a sit while being pet by a stranger.

He has been training in locations which have included Home Depot, Walmart, Petsmart and CAL Ranch. Next week Musketeer will be working on maintaining a down stay while around moving objects such as skateboards, bikes, cars, suitcases rolling around him, a person running by, practicing appropriate restaurant behavior including not begging or attempting to eat or closely sniff any food on the floor or on tables, leave it with food items that may fall from the table, maneuvering into restroom stalls and maintaining a sit stay while the handler washes hands and exposure to sound of a hand dryer.

Musketeer's 6th Weekly Report Card:

This week Musketeer Puppy has been practicing various floor textures including sand, grass, moving floors, wood chips, grated floors, rock, etc. He has been practicing maintaining a sit and down stay for longer periods of time with increased distractions and movement around him and on walking next to increased traffic sounds on a busy city street. He has been continuing to practice heeling with a focus on making left hand turns and on heeling at various speeds. This is taught because there are times that may call for a dog to heel at a quick pace such as when in a hurry to catch a bus and other times when they may need to heel at a very slow pace such as when a person is hurt. He has also been begun practicing heeling up and down stairs.

Musketeer Puppy has been training in various locations including the park, Lowe's, Walmart garden center, Petco, busy city streets, and Tractor Supply Company. Next week, he will be reinforcing all of the commands and tasks learned in a high distraction environment, working on sound and touch sensitivity, maintaining a down stay on a bed, maintaining a sit and down stay while someone knocks at the door and rings a doorbell, and learning to stay in a stand position. This will come in handy when at the groomers or while being examined by a veterinarian. Musketeer will be working on "accepting a friendly stranger" which means that he will be practicing to sit politely while the handler stands close to and speaks to a stranger without the dog trying to sniff or get to the stranger and maintaining a sit while being pet by a stranger.
